Jack Draper has qualified for the French Open fourth round after a straight sets win against Brazilian, Joao Fonseca.

The British number one provided his most convincing win of the tournament yet, beating the talented 18 year old in just over an hour and three quarters.

A scoreline of 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 saw the Brit cruise into the last 16 on Suzanne – Lenglen, with a fourth round tie against world number 62 Alexander Bublik. The Kazakhstani has already produced a shock this week, beating ninth seed Alex De Minaur in the second round.

The win continues Draper’s perfect record against Fonseca, after also beating him in Indian Wells earlier this year, 6-4, 6-0.

Cameron Norrie is the other British representative in the fourth round, after beating fellow countryman Jacob Fearnley yesterday, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2.

That win for the British number three sets up an exciting fourth round tie with world number six and three time French Open champion Novak Djokovic, on Phillippe – Chatrier.

With both Draper and Norrie still in the competition, it is the first time that two British men have made the fourth round of Roland Garros since 1963.

As for Draper, a win against Bublik could possibly set up a quarter final clash with world number one Jannik Sinner, if the Italian is to beat 17th seed Andrey Rublev in his fourth round match.

Sinner is yet to drop a set in his first three matches against Arthur Rinderknech, Richard Gasquet and Jiri Lehecka.

Therefore, both of the British men have tough tests ahead if they want to reach the final stages of this year’s Roland Garros.

Quote of the week

“The consistency of my level during the whole tournament has been really high, which I’m really proud of.

“The three weeks I spent here are a privilege.”
